Position available:
ESL Instructor & Residential Activity Leader
The ESL instructor is responsible for teaching English classes and an elective in one of the following areas: Art & Design, Fashion, Sports, Marine Environment and Leadership. The instructor ensures students benefit from their academic program by providing the student with the necessary skills to become proficient in English through grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening.
The Residential Activity Leader (RAL) is responsible for leading international students and their group leaders through a variety of day, evening and weekend activities and excursions through active participation. Successful RALs are expected to assist in the organization and participation of activities, demonstrate leadership, effective communication skills, flexibility, and sensitivity to the international students. This position requires considerable amounts of walking on guided tours, carrying sports equipment from various locations on campus and moving furniture in preparation for indoor activities.
Compensation: (ESL Instructor/RAL) $450.00 weekly + housing + meals
REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a TEFL certification plus a Bachelor’s degree.
Must have at 2+ years of ESL teaching experience, preferably with teenagers.
Must be familiar with teaching classes with students being added or departing weekly.
Must have lived abroad and/or traveled extensively.
MUST be familiar with the Miami and South Beach area, especially the attractions.
MUST ALREADY BE AUTHORIZED TO WORK IN THE USA
Experience working in a summer camp program or working with international students, mainly young adults is a plus.

Assistant Professor of English and ESL Programs Coordinator in USA

In the academic area, the ESL Programs Coordinator reports to the Director of Writing, teaching courses for fully matriculated international students during the fall and spring academic semesters. Administrative responsibilities involve academic planning and coordination of related activities for short-term international student programs during the summer months; the Coordinator of ESL Programs also works closely with the Office of Conference Services.
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications: PhD or EdD strongly preferred. A background in the teaching of second-language writing at the post secondary level is required, with additional preference for experience in college writing instruction. Successful candidates will demonstrate an avid interest in utilizing a project-focused approach to teaching. Under the supervision of the Department Chair of Humanities, the Instructor of Foreign Languages will prepare and teach college-approved language courses in accordance with course descriptions and class schedules, develop syllabi, and reading lists, assist in the selection of texts and related teaching resources, and meet the responsibilities required of all faculty members, including academic an career-oriented student advisement.. The Language Instructor will play a lead role in language instruction at the college and work with ESL faculty members in the development of a regional ESL Center.
REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in a foreign language is required; Spanish language degree and ability to teach multiple languages preferred. Evidence of currency in theories of second languages acquisition and college teaching experience, especially among ethnically diverse and/or urban student populations and community college students is desirable.
Successful applicants should be able demonstrate expertise in the following areas: teaching a foreign language using innovative approaches to pedagogy and learner-centered teaching. Background in team-teaching and interdisciplinary approaches to instruction, assessment, and multimedia instructional techniques (which may include on-line learning) is desirable.
