WORKING CONDITIONS:
Teaching English to German-speaking students from the ages of 9 to 15 for a not-for-profit organization headquartered in the Austrian Lake District in Austria, the region made famous by the “Sound of Music” movie. Bilingual education has become increasingly popular in Austrian secondary schools and ABCi has recently launched a major effort to expand their outreach program. Teaching takes place in different schools during in-school project weeks and via an online VLE, necessitating travel in and around Austria. In addition, the successful applicant will be given training in the administration of a NGO in the education sector by taking part in project work and program development at Headquarters. The volunteer is provided with training in English project work, professional feedback from a senior teacher, full room and board with internet access, travel costs, evenings, weekends and Austrian public holidays free.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in education (or related field) and/or teacher certification, native English speaker, proficiency in German, genuine talent for teaching and a drivers license. Candidates with experience in a non-traditional teaching environment such as summer camps, youth groups or outdoor education will be preferred. Candidates selected for this position will be subjected to a background investigation.
