English Language Training (ELT) Senior Training and Development Specialists Needed in Afghanistan
REQUIREMENT OVERVIEW:
Non-Native Speaker English Language Training (ELT) Senior Training and Development Specialists to provide support to Arabic speaking Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF). Senior Training and Development Specialists will perform English Language Training instruction to ANSF personnel at various locations throughout Afghanistan, primarily Kabul, Kandahar, and Shindand. The Senior Training and Development Specialists will be supporting the WarFighter FOCUS (WFF) training contract, and must possess strong interpersonal skills, as well as possess highly technical training experience. The Senior Training and Development Specialists report to the Principal Training Development Specialist, and ELT Program Manager.
WORK HOURS:
Work may include nights, holidays, and weekends on short notice. Standard will be to provide ELT instruction six (6) days per week for up to ten (10) hours per day while at OCONUS work site(s), and a standard 40 hour work week while at CONUS work sites.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Senior Training and Development Specialist will provide English Language Training instruction to ANSF personnel, and shall mentor local national English language instructors, located at various locations throughout Afghanistan. Ensure that training objectives are completed on schedule, following established procedures and schedules. Conduct and monitor daily training of ANSF leadership and staff. Plan, schedule, and arrange course activities to accomplish objectives in accordance with established training curriculum. Design and administer in-house programs to train all levels of personnel. Coordinate class arrangements, conduct training classes, and develop criteria for evaluating training effectiveness. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide leadership and expertise in development and execution of training program
• Partner with ELT Project Manager, Senior Project Management Liaison, Principle Training and Development Specialists, Contracting Officers Representative (COR), and other stakeholders in execution of training program
• Ensure timely completion of all required training reports, such as Situational Reports (SITREPs), After Action Reports (AARs), student rosters, and other training reports, as required
• Assist in developing Programs of Instruction (POIs), lesson plans, training calendars, training aids, training presentations, and other training deliverables or materials, as required
• Organize and develop English language syllabus or curriculums, instruction manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials necessary for effective training
• Coordinate class curriculum, conduct language classes and develop criteria for evaluating effectiveness of activities
• Identify developmental needs/gaps within classroom population and take corrective action
• Analyze language training needs to develop new programs or modify and improve existing programs
• Actively participate in the performance development process
• Coordinate with the Senior Project Management Liaison in all administrative matters
• Assess training, and participate in post-course evaluations
• Spearhead continuous process improvements
• Work with mentors to align training and understanding of the ELT mission
• Ensure completion of post-training assessments of student performance. Collect feedback of After Action Reviews (AAR) at the conclusion of training classes
• Assist Regional Materials Project Manager with logistical forecasts, and the subsequent fulfillment and accountability of materials to end users
• Incorporate and utilize Train the Trainer (T3) techniques, as applicable
• May serve as Team Leader, as needed
• Other duties, as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Required Operational, Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
• Sr Training and Development Specialist shall be a native English speaker
• Must have 4 years of relevant experience with at least 2 of those years teaching experience in English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL), or MA/MS/MBA degree in one of these fields
• Must receive and maintain a SECRET security clearance
• Provide English language instruction to ANSF personnel, and shall mentor local national English language instructors
• Participate in professional development as required during normal work hours
• Must have detailed experience in developing formal training programs, to include development of Programs of Instruction, lesson plans, and training calendars
• Have intermediate to expert proficiency level with Microsoft Office products, such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
• Have excellent written and oral communications skills
• Have good interpersonal, networking, and social skills
• Must be willing to work and live in Afghanistan with an understanding that there could be further assignments to any location in Afghanistan based upon the needs of the U.S. Government, to include hostile and austere areas
• Must be willing and able to travel outside of protected areas via military convoys or MILAIR, and wear protective clothing and equipment as required
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
• US military instructor certification preferred
• Prior military service, or involvement with ANSF military forces in contingency environments
• Involvement with training Afghanistan military forces, or other foreign military forces
• Prior experience working in the middle east region preferred or other international experience considered
• Demonstrated ability to exercise cultural sensitivity
• Prior use of interpreters
• A thorough understanding of US and coalition military organizations, roles and missions
• Curriculum development experience, specifically in continual improvement efforts to determine the efficacy of unit training programs and organizational training principles and practices
• Incorporation of Lessons Learned and TTP’s
Required Education:
• Have a BA/BS degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), English, Linguistics or related degree. 8 years of equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of education requirement.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. SECRET Security Clearance.
