Teach English in France

France, with its colorful history and breath-taking architecture, is also the birthplace of some of the world’s most famous artists and writers. If you have a taste for elegant and refined cuisine, sophisticated culture, art, fashion, and some of the world’s finest wines, then France may be the place for you.

There are abundant museums and theaters, a vibrant music scene, and French people also have a passion for sports, with soccer being the most popular.

The French people are proud of their culture and language, which is spoken in about 33 countries around the world. It’s a good idea to try and learn the language while you are there, as you will find French people, and Parisians in particular, far more receptive if try to use their native tongue.

There are many jobs available for English teachers. Most teaching positions can be found in large companies, and some public schools and language institutions. However, French people prioritize their own citizens and fellow EU nationals. So, non-EU teachers may have a hard time landing a job in France.

Experience is not always necessary, but certainly an advantage. There are even a few teachers who are undergraduates, or on volunteer programs assigned across France. Most teachers work part time since work hours are limited for English teachers. Jobs offered are mostly as assistant teachers. Private tutoring is not common in France.

Landing a job in France requires a teacher to find an employer that will assist them with the proper documentation and visas. Be reminded that the French value courtesy and formality in looking for jobs. Be sure to dress and act appropriately for all job interviews.

Finding a teaching job is not easy, but not impossible. France offers something for every taste so if you can find employment you are sure to enjoy your stay in the country.
