Oshu is a city of approximately 130,000 in central Iwate. It is flanked by mountain ranges to the east and the west with easy access to major cities located to the north and south. (Tokyo is 2.5 ~ 3 hours south by superexpress train. Fukushima is about 200kms away.) The nearest ski resort is only a 40-minute drive while the nearest coast is an hour and a half to the east.
The positions offered are NOT for the faint-hearted, shy or those with communication or major homesickness issues. UNIVERSITY PROGRAM (FULL-TIME)
PROGRAM INFORMATION; We are looking for individuals who are highly motivated to teach at a Japanese university. Those who are interested in a rewarding overseas experience and enhancing their teaching skills should apply for this unique opportunity.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree or higher
- Total 3 years or more (or at least 6 or more terms/semesters) experience in teaching university/community college accredited courses (all subjects).
- Native speaker of English with a passport from one of the following English-speaking countries; USA, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Ireland, or New Zealand.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree and one of the following:
a) 500+ hours of actual EFL/ESL classroom teaching experience along with EFL/ESL teaching certificate and/or elementary/primary/secondary teaching credentials/qualifications
b) 1000+ hours of actual EFL/ESL classroom teaching experience in lieu of teaching certificates or credentials/qualifications
* No Japanese language ability is required.

- HOUSING is provided. We will arrange a fully-furnished single apartment with a rental fee of 81,000 yen per month (utilities and maintenance fees included).

Working Conditions:
We are a small culture school located on the southern tip of Honshu Island, about 40 minutes by train from Shimonoseki – across the Kanmon straight from Kyushu island. Our city is called Sanyoonoda and it has a population of about 30,000 people. We teach “New Dance” and “English Conversation.” At present we have 6 English conversation teachers on our staff and 3 dance teachers. The dance teachers also carry out the day to day running of the school.
Full Time.
Our salary for full time teachers is from JPY250,000 – 270,000 for a maximum 98 hours monthly teaching schedule. Any hours taught over and above that figure being classed as overtime and remunerated at the rate of JPY2,500 per hour. Our teachers aren’t usually asked to put in office time, but are only sometimes requested to attend a teachers’ meeting that is occasionally held on Friday mornings.
BENDA additionally provides a contract completion bonus of JPY20,000 towards foreign travel costs.
Teachers who are employed by us receive approximately two weeks paid vacation over Christmas and the New Year, plus two consecutive days off per week and their relevant Japanese National holidays.
Unpaid vacation is also taken into consideration during light workloads and within the summer months.
